City wins Ontario Public Works Association Award for corporate asset management

The City of Burlington has won the prestigious 2014 IT Symposium award from the Ontario Public Works Association for work on the Corporate Asset Management System implementation (Riva Decision Support implementation). This annual competition provides an opportunity for municipalities across Ontario to showcase their IT initiatives and accomplishments directed at improving the delivery of Public Works services. All submissions are first reviewed by an OPWA panel and then short listed for presentations at the annual OPWA IT Symposium which took place on April 16, 2014. Staff buy 1400 chocolate bars to honour colleagues for their work

City staff purchased 1,400 chocolate bars in April as part of a "gratitude-o-gram" program launched last year as a simple way for employees to recognize their co-workers for helping out and going the extra mile. Participants buy a chocolate bar for $2 and send it to a colleague with a personalised note of thanks. The city's healthy workplace committee delivers the bars. Last year, 900 chocolate bars were sold.  The committee chose Walker’s Chocolates as they’re Burlington based and they make (delicious!) fundraising chocolate bars. City achieves accreditation for children’s programs

The city of Burlington has achieved Accredited Organization status with the Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE quality assurance program. A staff team has worked hard over the last two years to ensure that the quality standards for children's recreation programs have met or exceeded the criteria established by Parks and Recreation Ontario. City wins award for Alton Campus project

Parks and Recreation Ontario has honoured the city with an Award of Excellence in Design for the Alton Campus project, which includes the recently opened Haber Recreation Centre and the adjacent Norton Park. The award recognizes a park, recreation and/or cultural facility that has demonstrated high standards of planning, design, community involvement, operation and maintenance, quality of aesthetics, usability, accessibility and versatility.
